Crossing the Mississippi River

May 16, 2010
Mississippi River Bridge

The sun sets over downtown, driving back into New Orleans.

It’s so wonderful to live next to and on and sometimes IN a body of water, especially when it rains (like today and yesterday) and the roads flood out so you can’t drive, and Audubon park is empty except for the birds, and the river’s surface is covered in dots and ripples from rain drops, and it’s still hot, and I still go for a run in the buckets of rain, and get yelled at by a brave SUV driver, “THAT’S AWESOME!” and come home soaked and exhausted to listen to the thunder for a few more hours and likely for the rest of the week. I love it.

Paying $1 and driving over the Mississippi River Bridge just for fun still seems like a novelty, a privilege.
